After looking at the idea of swan lake and black swan i thought this would be a great starting point for a colour palette to try some samples out.
BLACK & WHITE
I want to try samples with black onto black;black onto white;white onto white and white onto black to createa real contrast. I started some of this today, staring with something abit more familiar of bird textures. I took a section from one of my drawings and repeated it (little circles) found by the beak.

I completley filled an embroidery hoop with his textured sewing onto a white bin liner to experiment with different materials. The nature of the material tore a little in places which i found extremely interesting... |

Close up of the hole. The stitching sits nicely around the hole making it unable to tear anymore.
What i like about stitching onto bin liner is that the liner is really light and i feel reflects the idea of the bird. By adding stitching onto it, it not only adds detail but adds a slight weight to it really highlighting the way a bird moves.
I feel as if this is a whole new material. Free embroidery onto a white bin liner completley changes the property of the fabric by making it stiffer and more managable without becoming estatic.
I really like the reverse due to some of the tension coming through the other side and how it is white on white showing flashes of black.
