Today i have had a day off from uni and i decided i would start my grandmas 70th birthday present. I got my grandad to sneakily get a photo album forme containing some images of her as a child so i could draw for her as a special birthday present as i did for my papa last year! Due to the photos being quite small, and my scanner not working i had to work the long way round by taking a photo of it, printing it off so i could enlarge it using the grid method, as i did not want to ruin the original photo.....
After all this i drew it out, in about a3 in size onto watercolour paper. It took awhile due to working from a small photograph and the printed copy was not very clear at all ! But i managed to perservere (as my tutor says 99% perspiration!!!

Pencil onto watercolour paper.
I now plan to use this to trace onto fabric as i didn't want to use the grid method straight onto fabric as it would ruin it..
Hopefully it'll turn out to be like some of my previous free embroidery portarit works (see below).
I hope she likes it, i wanted to do something slightly different to my papas 70th so that they have their own indivdual piece!
Harvey, 1 years old. Cotton.
Millie, one month old. Cotton.
Alisha, 4 years old. cotton and ink.
Gabby, 15 years old. cotton and applique.
Jake, 18 years old. cotton and applique
