"commissioned" birthday invitations

Jakes dad, Mick asked me if I would make him 50 birthday invites for his mothers surprise 80th birthday. I tried out various designs from stencilled lillies, drawn birthday flowers and designs that I could paint but after several attempts and mock ups I wasn't happy with the outcomes so I opted for a design I would enjoy making..... Free embroidery cards. I enjoy embroidery so I started sampling with embroidery thread to create a design, the design had to be simple and hopefully effective as I would then have a lot of work too do for them... I opted for a simple flower, with an appliqué fabric centre and a stalk that trailed onto the back with a little sewn heart to give the card character front and back!! I also opted for a contrasting colour theme to give it life and I m a big lover for colour. For example on one colour story i used a red gingham centre, with blue embroidery thread and sewing that in place using a red cotton thread so I had lots of little detail in them. My favourite colour story was a red centre, green embroidery thread and an orange cotton thread. It's a very fresh palette and because the party is in September it'll take on a natural transition from summer to autumn.. I enjoyed making these, got me back into sewing as the past few weeks I've been away enjoying the sun and travelling !!!! Using embroider threads in the bobbin meant I had to work onto the reverse which then meant that the inside of the invite had a flower and heart decorating it ... Hopefully people like them...
