Inspiration: potential colour ways for print design.

These photos are not mine, they are from an editorial of Vogue Germany (October 2010), inspired by the 1960s but this is not why i was drawn to it. It was the vibrant but muted colours that drew me in,we want something happy and cheery and although these colours are slightly on the drab side, these could be brightened up and given life too! I love how they are in contrast with one another, which compliments and highlights each of their 'personalities'.
I really like the bright pink with the muted blues lightened up with the sunshine yellows!

pretty collars

Along with autumnal colours working their magic through fashion, another love of mine right now is collars. I like how you can have these 'jewllery collars' that you just add onto a shirt or cardigan. I also like how you can layer up your clothes to purposely show off your collar! It's a great way to glam up or smarten an outfit depending on the occasion, i think i'm going to try this look out tomorrow with my new jumper!

autumnal colours.

Hate to say it but autumn is round the colour... believe i hate to say it! As a sun lover and as someone who plans nearly there whole year around going on a summer holiday it pains me to say it but autumn colours are seeping there way through into high street fashion. (although apparentlythe uk are supposed to have there summer in september!) As i work in a high street fashion store i get to see whats new right from the word go and yes we already have a selection of winter coats in ! I love how fashion changes from pastel pinks, to berry pinks, to aubergine pinks to deep purples in a blink of an eye. And what is dominating the high street now is khaki, burgundy and trusty black of course!

Now i know the title of the blog may seem mis leading as it isn't jammed packed with autumn colours, but they are definetley coming through.. im trying to hold on to the summer (buying myself a light loose knit coral jumper yesterday!) but i cannot fight the obvious, more and more burgundy and khaki are coming in! I do like how though Josh Goot and Bally have added accent colours to their typical 'autumn' colours with splashes of neon green and reds, it brightens them up and eases the transition in making it wearable fashion now. Adding colours also makes it easier to pair with accessories on a night out, this dress to the right is a great party dress and perhaps if teamed with neon green shoes it could lift the dress even more! I particularly like how all of the designers have created fitted and body sculpting pieces, moving slightly away from the 1950s peplum and bringing in a new silhouette for the new season...

Flamingo inspired drapery.

Following the last time i sampled some of my ideas in the form of drapery i designed some further designs, also from being inspired by Sonia Rykiels collection (below).
I designed a various of 5 different designs using techniques that i have already trialled such as pleating, drapery, layering, print and embellishment.
Close ups of my designs. I kept a simple colour scheme taken directly from flamingos, and my samples. This consisted of pinks, oranges and nudes. I then took this further by taking it back to drapery but using different techniques such as ruffling and rouching...
With this dress i played around with ruffling up the fabric around the neckline to create a big and bold statement neckline teamed with simple and understated pleating that drapes. This creates contrasting textures along with contrasting colours to distinguish the difference in technique & texture.
This was probably my favourite design; appearance wise due to the alternative neckline. I prefer the right hand photo due to the bold colour statement! I have also added volumne to the skirt, to provide a more fitted shape and curvature to the dress, just like flamingos 'skirt'. Flamingos have more volumne towards the bottom half of their body where the featheres layer up.
I tried drapery around the neckline to add volume to a different part of the dress. I also like how the colours have naturally created a dip dye effect as they rouche together!

My favourite part about doing drapery is the way the colours connect and interact with one another creating it's own personality naturally. The accent colour of orange creates a massive statement along side the nudes and pale pinks, it adds depth to the fabrics and highlights the tones of the colour palette.

Chalayan

Lady Gaga bubble outfit
Chalayan's unique style has been copied by others, here Lady Gaga wears a copy of the original made by another designer!!! Chalayans was first shown on the runway in 2007...
Chalayan is now known as "a true now-ist (more than a modernist). He is excited by science, fascinated by world politics, and recognizes the fact that the way we dress is a reaction to the times we live in. Since 9/11, fashion's response to reality has been to hide in the past. Now that mood is lifting, and Chalayan, like Nicolas Ghesquière, is right to be bringing us face to face with something that is, too sloppily, being dubbed "futurism."

This is a new designer who is looking into similiar (and probably more in depth) concepts that i am, he is looking more into the materials we use whereas i am looking into the use of smart dyes! Here are some more examples of his work that i fins inspirational....

"This was fashion addressing the subject of fashion, a dissection of our contemporary habit of recycling "vintage," and an embrace of high technology, all at the same time."

I really like the geometric shapes created here and i think i may have ago at exploring geometric patterns rather than organic ones all of the time. I need to change a little just to explore what can be done in different ways!!
