Today our tutor Grainne gave us the task of choosing one sample and one piece of research that we could push forward with the use of verbs and technique.
Since i had been looking into using the heatpress and plastics i wanted to push 'joining' forward. I got influence of a good friend who is in her final year and told me how you can trap beads within puff binder, so i would join these two together...
This was my first sample, it wasn't successful however it turned into one of those 'happy accidents':
This was my first attempt to try and trap beads within my print design and this was the only bit i managed to salvage as when i put it into the heat press it stuck itself to the paper!
The remnants from the 'experiment' the left hand side is the rest of the tissue paper that has stuck onto the paper. The beads have left an imprint and a raised texture as they have trapped themselves between the tissue paper and the paper. The right hand side paper (without the pink) was the paper that was left underneath and the beads had pushed them all the way through to the paper underneath piercing its surface.
The imprints that have been left are raised and have created little lines that are also raised.
Due to the imprints that were created i visually connected them to french knots and therfore i pushed it forward by sewing into it with french knots. This creates difference in texture with embroidery thread and paper imprints and also in colour. The pink is very vibrant and so therfore stands out but by placing them near the imprints it alows your eye to see it all.
This was the tissue paper left stuck on the paper you can clearly see where the beads are, i should take a rubbing of this as they have strongly been encapsulated within the layers of papers.

After this happy accident i continued my investigation and applied puff binder with a spoon so it was thick and so that beads could embed themselves easier.. This however was verytime consming and didn't work as effectively as i thought....
The puff binder was way too thick and heavy for the delicate tissue paper so it added alot of weight and wasn't very playful. The beads however did encapsulate themselves!
After this i thought i would interpret the french knots into puff binder....
I enlarged the scale of the french knot when using the puff binder and randomly placed them creating an unbalanced composition... I have also started to add the french knots in so i can clearly see the difference between size and materials.
Close up of the puff binder, they look like little meringues. I like how the puff binder has joined itself to the tissue paper and is sitting on top of the surface.
