My painting so far...

On monday i blogged about getting back into drawing and painting and thats exactly what i have been doing. Yesterday i spent a good amount of time painting my drawing with oil paints. This is a challenge in itself but when i realised oils dont apply well tomount board it made it slightly harder to use! But i pushed on through and carried on, seeing it as a challenge that i wanted to overcome! Of which i did and i'm happy with the result so far....
It's not completley finished but all colour is down, and due to using oils it means i have to allow the paints to dry (which can take 1-3 days) to be able to work back into it.
Whenever i paint or draw i always document the stages of a painting as putting the images back together is always just as interesting to see how the painting has evolved from a  linear drawing, to block colours, to the finer details!
Here i'll share this documentation with you :)

Love how from a painting can go from looking slightly scary with no eyes, but as soon as you put them in the painting just comes to life! Shows that the eyes are the entrance into the persons soul!?

As soon as you put in an outline it puts the skintone into perspective as the skin colour can seem quite in your face, but the outline tones it down and highlights the skin rather than dulls it down!

I added a light blue background, but i am now thinking it could be a bit too much, so i may try to tone that down even more...

This is the final painting so far, it needs refining in places but waiting for the paint to dry!
I love painting hopefully i'll do a few more of these over the summer!

Also i would like to privatley congratulate NUCA as it has now been given the official title as a university rather than a college!

"Norwich University College of the Arts (Nuca) has previously been unable to call itself a university because it did not have the 4,000 students needed to qualify.
But yesterday universities minister David Willetts announced institutions with at least 1,000 higher education students could now claim the title.
Supporters of Nuca last night welcomed the decision which they said would bring much-deserved prestige to the 170-year-old specialist institution but also to Norfolk as a two-university county."
