Yesterday my dad came home with a toolbox full of watercolours, oils and acrylic paints! I was so chuffed and happy, i haven't painted properly in ages due to my textiles course and i remember doing portraits at a-level and it's something i have missed. This was the perfect excuse to draw and paint!
So today me and jake chose a photo each to draw as he is quite the artist himself, but more of land scape artist rather than portraiture. This is a photo of one of his paintings,it's oil on canvas and is very large about 2xa1 boards... I am veryproud of him he is a talented musician and can play and make music, he's good with his feet as he made the first team for mens and he shares one of the same passions as me: art.
I was so happy he was excited and enthuased by the idea, so didn't second question it at all and went with it.
I didn't have any canvases left but had a mount board, that i could use the back of (an idea from lillie!) so we cut it up and got started using the grid method.
This is the photo i have chosen to draw and paint:
I love this photo, it has such good memories attached to it. This was taken on the last day when we stayed in London for the weekend, we were then leaving our hotel and we had a very lovely jam packed weekend- wish i could do it all over again! For his birthday next month we are staying away on the North Norfolk Coast for a few days which will hopefully be sunny but it will be great! Slightly different to the cityscapes we saw in London, but that gives me a chance to explore and see how even though were in the same country, different places act and live so differently and it's this social behaviour that interests me. I love the busy hustle and bustle of city life- where people are always in a rush and the tube is the equivalent of walking here,it's surreal almost as when i return home i feel as if i have been abroad! However in the city work seems to be the main focus and although i love working - uni/employment i believe that family and love is the number one prioirty. You could have all the money and success in the world but it doesn't make you anymore happier than someone who is surrounded by people that complete them! I couldn't be completley happy without knowing my loved ones aren't around or behind me,i am a very home at the heart kind of girl. Thats why the coast is a lovely place to be. You get a real sense of freedom and relaxation where you can chill out and explore the area. Family is at the heart of this, where many are holiday-makers or day trippers on the beach! No-one goes into the city to relax!! You can grab a deck chair or a towel and sit back and take in the sunshine; now that sounds good like heaven!
This is my drawing of the photo above:
I am so excited about painting it, but don't really want to ruin it! It will be hung on my wall and readily waiting to be moved out when i finally take that step :)
