Today i used my screens and printed to my hearts content !! I used my thermochromic dyes, and procion! I layered up textured prints with linear and block prints to get a feel for texture and composition. I really like the use of yellow and pink, it's so vibrant and the palette has come directly from my drawings which is always a bonus.
I started with paper and tissue paper as i always do just to see what the outcomes are,and how well they work so i could then progress onto fabric (as i only had a limited amount with me!).
My tutor said today that i needed to look into materials more; so i used cotton, voile, lining paper, tracing paper and tissue.
On Monday i would like to print onto plastics and more transparent materials so i could layer the prints up, also i would like to print fabric for an umbrella(a little too ambitious maybe?!) but worth a go at ... I'll see where it takes me...
I've been looking at space, body and home so hopefully by printing fabric that is not only used within fashion but is an accessory for everyday life, so will combine these two ideas. As i have hydrochromic dyes and thermochromic dyes, my tutor said i could make a range of sun umbrellas and rain ones which would compliment my choice of dyes. Alot to think about?! Me too, tomorrow imay give my self a day off as i am not timetabled in and she was impressed with the amount of work i had done, which is always good as she sees theres always room for more. Which i do agree with, but there has to be some sort of relaxation in my life and as i have a busy weekend at work tomorrow is ideal!! I'll leave you with my prints for now....
i started on paper first combining pattern and white backgrounds.

shows the contrast between the two.
On tissue paper, with block colour and linear patterns.
repeat block print pattern.
Paper, block print is using thermochromic dyes and the linear one is procion dyes.

brown paper, and procion print
procion print repeat with flock pattern on top. I am disappointed with this as you cannot see the flock print very well! The texture is nice though!

using thermochromic inks.
procion print onto lace with puff binder.
procion print onto knit.
previous print but sampled onto fabric.
Sampling yellow and pink onto cotton, using thermochromic inks (block print) and procion print (linear).
procion print and flock print onto voile and lace.

From today i have learnt what works best and what doesn't. This also means i can be better prepared on Monday.
